It’s Beatles Day today! The Beatles were a phenomenon back in the day, writing such classic songs as “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” and “A Day In The Life”. Any time they played or performed, it was a big event. So in honour of the big events that were Beatles concerts, we at West Harbour wanted to let you know about some of the bigger local events in downtown Kelowna near you this month. We’ll give you the what, where, when, and why of each event as well as where to find more information about them.
What: A Classic Rock Tribute Night in which six talented musicians performing four songs each paying tribute to their favourite artist. This includes tributes to Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Sarah McLachlan. Tickets are $35 and proceeds go to the Kelowna Community Resources Society.
Where: At Waterfront Park on 1200 Water street.
When: Wednesday July 14th, 2018 from 5:00-10:00 PM.
Why: With food, drinks, and fun to be had all around, listening to classic songs being performed live, we couldn’t find many better ways to spend a Wednesday.

What: An independent short film festival showcase with two separate screening blocks. The afternoon block features local and international short films, documentaries, and music videos. The evening gala features an awards ceremony celebrating the best works. Tickets to each block individually cost $20, and a full day pass to both costs $30.
Where: Kelowna Community Theatre on 1375 Water Street
When: Wednesday July 14th, 2018. The afternoon block is from 2-5pm, the evening block is from 7-11pm.
Why: If you’re a big fan of the indie film scene or just want to support and celebrate local artists, this is the spot to be.

What: A lakefront 75-minute long yoga class outdoors catered to all levels of yoga. All proceeds will go to making yoga more accessible to the larger community. Admission is by donation.
Where: Stuart Park Ice Rink on 1430 Water Street.
When: July 15th, 2018, from 9-11 AM
Why: Whether you’re just curious about yoga or you’re already a huge fan, this is definitely worthwhile. A day outdoors, stretching and improving your body through active meditation. How much better can it really get?

What: An annual downtown Kelowna block party. A free community event involving food, drink, entertainment, and culture.
Where: Bernard Avenue
When: July 21st, 2018, from 10-4 PM
Why: Block parties are cool, and this one’s no exception. Who doesn’t enjoy a cool party every now and then?

What: A Caribbean Festival celebrating Caribbean cuisine and music. Admission is free.
Where: Kelowna City Park on 1600 Abbott Street.
When: July 21st, 2018, from 12-9 PM
Why: Looking for a bit of exotic flavour in your day? Come on down to the Okanagan Caribbean Festival and experience a taste of their culture. You won’t regret it.
